研究上の大きな関心は二つである。
一つは幕末明治初期の日本に建設された洋風建築についての研究である。特に、洋風建築の意匠や建築技術、それを手掛けた建築家について明らかにするだけでなく、幕末明治初期の国際社会に位置づけることも試みている。
もう一つは歴史的建造物や町並みの保存活用に関する調査研究である。広島県内をはじめ、これまでいくつかの報告書を作成し、いくつかは論文として発表した。

My main research interests include two themes.
The one is to study western-style buidlings in Bakumatsu and early Meiji Japan. In particular, not only clarifying the design, thechnology and architects connected, it tries to undestrand them in the international social context.
The other is to survey the historic buidlings for their consevation and utilization. I was engaged in several projects in Hiroshima prefecture and elsewhere and published academic articles as a result.
